WWE TICKETS- HISTORY OF WORLD WRESTLING FEDERATION (WWF)

Professional wrestling has enjoyed a long and storied history, dating back to its origins as a sideshow act in traveling carnivals and circuses. Today, with the popularity of wrestling at its peak, the WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc.) is at the top of the professional wrestling world, and sales of WWE tickets continue to increase.

The WWE has roots dating back to 1952, when it started as the Capital Wrestling Corporation. Over the past sixty years, sales of WWE tickets have increased exponentially each year, as the fanbase for the WWE continues to expand well beyond its base in the United States. Jess McMahon and Toots Mondt came together to create the Capital Wrestling Corporation (WCW), and literally within months, the new professional wrestling organization controlled many of the top fights in wrestling, and sales of WWE tickets went through the roof.

Shortly thereafter, McMahon passed away and was replaced in the organization by his son, Vince McMahon. The WCW formed an alliance with the National Wrestling Alliance, controlling almost all of the professional wrestling matches along the East Coast. While WWE tickets continued selling at a rapid pace, McMahon and Mondt soon developed a rift with the NWC, and left the organization in order to form the World Wide Wrestling Federation (WWWF). The organization was later renamed the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) in 1979.

WWE TICKETS- VINCE MCMAHON AND THE EXPANSION OF THE WWF

In early 1980, Vince McMahon's son, also named Vince, founded the company Titan Sports, and two years later purchased the WWF from his father and the other major stockholders of the WWF. Prior to McMahon buying WWF, the sport of professional had largely been regional, with the WWF controlling the Northeast and other organizations operating in other parts of the country. However, McMahon crossed regional lines when he syndicated WWF television broadcasts to television stations across the United States. Sales of WWF tickets rose as a result, and McMahon continued the distribution of the WWF product throughout the US through sales of WWF event videos, and then using the generated income to poach professional wrestlers from other wrestling organizations as well.

McMahon hired wrestling superstars Hulk Hogan, Rowdy Roddy Piper and Jesse Ventura, and in a venture that would make or break the WWF, McMahon came up with a concept called WrestleMania, a gathering of the best wrestlers in the sport in a singular event to be sold via pay-per-view television. The first WrestleMania, held in 1985, was huge success, as sales of WWE tickets for the event surpassed one million, making it one of the most-watched pay-per-view events in the history of television at the time.

The first WrestleMania established the WWF as the premier professional wrestling organization in the world. Sales of WWE tickets skyrocketed, as McMahon continued hiring on the best wrestlers in the sport over the next several years.

WWE TICKETS- THE NEW WWE AND ITS BRAND EXTENSION

As the WWF continued to expand, so too did its war with the rival WCW (World Championship Wrestling). After a period of time in which sales of WWE tickets were declining, McMahon again re-branded after years of wrangling with the WCW, eventually purchasing WCW from AOL/Time Warner in 2001. At around this time, the WWF became known as the WWE, the single largest promoter of wrestling in the United States and around the world. Today, sales of WWE tickets for its two main brands, WWE Raw and WWE Smackdown, continue to increase, and live events promoted by the WWE continue throughout the year.
