WWE RAW TICKETS- HISTORY OF WWE RAW

For over half a century now, the WWE, formerly known as the WWF, has provided wrestling fans with great entertainment, exciting matches and plenty of drama along the way. Since 1993, wrestling fans have been watching WWE Raw, and WWE Raw tickets continue to sell out at many arenas throughout the United States.

WWE Raw originally began as WWF Monday Night Raw and aired its first broadcast on January 11, 1993. Originally airing on the USA Network, WWF Monday Night Raw was unique in that it broadcast weekly matches in front of a live audience who purchased WWE Raw tickets, rather than in a studio with dubbed audience responses as was done in the past. WWF Monday Night Raw continued broadcasting each week on USA Network until 2000, when it moved to TNN, now known as Spike TV. The show moved back to USA Network in 2005, and is known as WWE Raw SuperShow.

WWE Raw tickets have been sold for 197 different arenas in nine different countries during the show's existence, and WWE Raw is now the longest-running episodic show in TV history.

WWE RAW TICKETS- WWE RAW AND THE MONDAY NIGHT WARS

When WWE Raw debuted in 1993, WWE Raw tickets instantly became huge sellers. However, in 1995, World Championship Wrestling (WCW) began airing its own weekly wrestling show on TNT, called WCW Monday Nitro. While sales of WWE Raw tickets were strong at the time, the competition between the two shows quickly ate into the sales of WWE Raw tickets, and the Monday Night Wars between the two competing shows was launched.

At the time, WWF Monday Night Raw was only broadcasting live wrestling shows every other week, so on several occasions, WCW Monday Nitro would give away the results of the taped WWF Monday Night Raw shows before the show aired. This cut into sales of WWE tickets at the time as well.

In 1999, due to increased sales of pay-per-view WWE Raw tickets and better TV ratings, WWF Monday Night Raw decided to do a live show each week. For several years in the mid-1990s, WCW Monday Nitro was actually winning the ratings war over WWF Monday Night Raw, and WWE owner Vince McMahon decided to change the format of WWF Monday Night Raw, turning it into a two-hour show in 1997.

Soon after, the tide once again shifted, as McMahon's marketing efforts for WWE Raw paid off. Sales of WWE Raw tickets once again increased, and WWE Raw took over the ratings battle with WCW Monday Nitro once again in 1998, ending the 86-week drought in the ratings war.

WWE RAW TICKETS- THE NEW WWE AND ITS BRAND EXTENSION

At about the time that WWE Raw had re-claimed the ratings war with its rival, WCW Monday Nitro, Vince McMahon began a re-branding of the WWE, starting with the "WWF Attitude" brand, which introduced a new stable of wrestlers to the WWE Raw family. Steve Austin, The Rock, Triple H and Mankind soon became the new stars of WWE Raw, and McMahon himself even introduced a new character in his own likeness to add to the various storylines that showcased WWE Raw broadcasts.

In 2001, due to its rapid decline in ratings, the WCW was sold by parent company Time Warner to McMahon and the WWE, effectively putting an end to the Monday Night Wars. Sales of Raw tickets continued expanding, and today, WWE Raw also includes the stable of wrestlers from WWE Smackdown as well, resulting in the re-branding of the show to be titled Raw SuperShow.

For over 18 years now, WWE Raw has seen other wrestling shows threaten it existence, and has survived moves back and forth between cable channels. However, with its unique programming and marketing, sales of WWE Raw tickets continue to make it one of the best weekly wrestling events in the sport's long history.
