In 1987 WrestleMania III produced by far the most sales of WrestleMania tickets, as 93,173 fans purchased WrestleMania tickets for the live event at the Silverdome in Pontiac, Michigan. In addition, over one million fans purchased WrestleMania tickets to watch the event via pay-per-view, making it the largest audience to watch a sporting event via pay-per-view at the time. To this day, WrestleMania III remains the most well-attended event in professional wrestling history, and WrestleMania III is looked upon as the event that spurred the professional wrestling boon at the time.
